CITY OF SEASIDE GOALS

In 2002, the City Council adopted a strategic plan in order to focus resources toward the accomplishment of the City’s key goals. On June 16, 2010, the City Council reviewed and updated the Strategic Plan to reflect current circumstances, particularly the extremely challenging economic times that are facing Seaside.

The City Council reaffirmed the City’s Mission and Vision Statement, and identified the following three-year goals (2009 - 2012)*:

Maintain a diverse and stable fiscal and economic base through the established economic development goals:

Auto Center;
Hotel at Del Monte Blvd.;
City Center;
Former Fort Ord Development;
Fairmont Resort (on Fort Ord);
Main Gate (on Fort Ord);
West Broadway Urban Village;
Renovation and expansion of existing businesses.

Enhance public safety and quality of life in Seaside.
Lead the effort to resolve the water shortage.
Achieve fiscal health.

The goal to “Lead the effort to resolve the water shortage” reflects a slight revision to the previously stated goal to “Resolve the water shortage.” Additional words were added to acknowledge that the City is not in the position to make the policy decisions or build infrastructure that could resolve the water shortage. However, it has and will continue to use its resources to promote solutions and facilitate problem solving with those agencies that are responsible for providing additional water to the City of Seaside.

For each goal, specific, measurable objectives have been established for the six-month planning period. Reports on the progress being made toward accomplishing those goals are provided to the City Council on a regular basis. These reports provide the City Council and staff an opportunity to monitor progress, as well as revise objectives and timelines as conditions warrant.

The next Strategic Planning Session for the City of Seaside has been scheduled for December 8, 2010.
